SyArt Gallery
Over 9 hours a week for my four month stay in Sorrento, Italy I worked at SyArt Gallery, a contemporary art gallery that hopes to marry art both local and international, from established artists and young artists alike. Considering my long period of time working at the gallery I have gotten incredibly close to my two bosses, Rossella Savarese and Leone Cappiello, and trusted to manage and curate the gallery on several occasions. In my job, due to this great extent of mutual trust, I have been treated as an equal, a peer, and even like family.

Hands-on Experience
One of my most difficult skills throughout this internship was communicating with other galleries and museums, as well as small businesses. I've had to practice and amend my tactics and ways of conversation dependent upon the client and purpose of contact. I've grown comfortable not only with sending professional emails, but also speaking to businesses owners with a clear purpose and objective.

Much of my job entails cataloging the new pieces we receive in our database and then the website, for online clients to stay up to date with our pieces.

I also assist in archiving the pieces we replace in the gallery to our storage area, which requires a level of precision and caution to ensure the pieces are in a position that wouldn't compromise their safety.

Of the skills learned, curation would qualify as my favorite, as well as the one closest to what I hope to pursue in the future. Due to the small size of my gallery, often my boss Leone, who is in charge of curation at the gallery, would let me have creative control over how to organize the pieces, and give me advice on how and why to arrange certain pieces in a certain order.
Curation
By far the most utilized skill from this internship has been the ability to sell art to potential clients. Communication, first-hand client engagement, and the memorization of important features of every piece in our collection are what culminate in the selling of art.
I also am often left in charge of the gallery when my bosses go to meetings out of town, and have gained much experience in running the gallery independently.

Many of my projects include sending marketing emails to our past and potential visitors as well as uploading videos and photos to the company's Instagram (below). The job has made me creatively think up of new ways to present the art online. The virtual presence of the company is one of their top priorities, as they've only opened April of 2018, reaching new clients through the internet is also of great importance, especially in the city's low-season of November to March.
Promotional Flyer Design
I designed this flyer for a collaboration I arranged between our gallery and the various restaurants and hotels in Sorrento. This collaboration entailed us donating some of the art to the businesses for free as a way of promoting our art to new clients.
